How do we currently handle toxic waste?

This is entirely dependent on the material For most chemicals that are still packaged in containers, the most common method is incineration in a safe, self contained incinerator. Sometimes there is also the use of aqueous treatment – basically flushing the chemical with water until the percentage is low enough to be treated and released. Toxic materials that are contaminating other materials, like mercury in soil, are treated totally different. The site clean up is up to the EPA and the owner of the facility.
