How do we control oil spills in the ocean?

Oils spills are cleaned up a few different ways:

-When clean up crews reach the accident quickly, the oil is contained from spreading using buoyant booms that hold a skirt under the water scooping it into a condensed area. The oil can then be siphoned off the surface into containment tanks on boats.

-Sorbants can be used, which suck up the oil in a sponge like fashion

-The oil can also be burned off the surface, but it creates toxic smoke so it is not usually done if the spill is around coastal communities.
