How do we clean up nuclear waste sites?

    There was a recent discovery in 2008 by Northwestern University chemists who discovered that metal sulfide materials were effective in removing the radioactive element strontium from sodium ions.  The sulfides converted the strontium into a solid form which could then be removed, destroyed or recycled.
