How do homes use heat transfer for a good thing?

    Older homes, instead of having central heating, often have a wood stove in the geometric center of the house. Grates in the walls and floors allowed warmer air to rise into the upper story, thus creating a house-wide loop of air that moderates the temperature of each room.
