How do transformers work?

A transformer will change electricity from a high voltage to a lower voltage. Basically you have 2 coils, a primary and secondary coil, and when electricity moves through the primary coil it creates a magnetic field which allows an electiric current to move through the secondary coil. These are the transformers you will find on utility poles for home and business use. There are also step-up transformers that do the opposite and increase the voltage.
