How do those no fire fireplaces work?

Those are called electric fireplaces, and they can produce about 5000 BTUs of heat (nice, but not enough heat to be the main source of heat for your house). Inside the electric fireplace, there are metal coils that heat up automatically when the appliance is plugged into an electrical socket. There’s also a fan inside the electric fireplace, which pushes the heat outward into your room and makes very little noise. The realistic flames are produced by a regular light bulb which refracts the light in a three-dimensional pattern that has no particular order, and this process gives the flames a realistic look.
