Tanning beds use a great deal of electricity. They often use as much electricity as a large appliance such as a dryer. This is not ecologically sound because most municipalities in the U.S. use power from unsustainable sources such as coal or natural gas. Tanning beds also use florescent light bulbs which often contain mercury.
