The most sustainable multi-use farms that build an ecosystem with their livestock and have zero footprint should use rainwater to replenish. It is very difficult to have a sustainable farm on an industrial level but smaller farmers can rely on rainwater; if they reside in the right climate. If a farmer is in an area like southern California where lots of irrigation is needed then they are not really that sustainable are they?
