It is unclear exactly how soybeans may affect fertility and other hormone pathways. Soybeans contain a wide variety of phytoestrogens or estrogen looking molecules. Some of these molecules may block or enhance the estrogen pathways in the body. This could potentially lead to many problems. Fermented soy products like soy sauce and tofu don’t have any of these phytoestrogens it is only a problem in whole soy products. Right now the recommendation is no more than 2-3 servings a week of non-fermented soy products to avoid the possible phytoestrogen effect but there is not much conclusive evidence one way or another on the topic.
