How do solar companies market their product?

I have often seen solar panel companies set up informational booths at farmers markets or outdoor community festivals.  Though this does a decent job hitting the target audience and getting people signed up for on-site evaluations, industry experts predict that only 10% of on-site evaluations turn into actual buyers.  This low conversion rate has spawned a number of different companies to try some new marketing methods.

    • Sun Run, a residential solar financier, began taking out advertising space on public television programs tailored toward environmental conservation.
    • Sungevity, a Berkeley, California company, uses satellite imaging to assess homes potential for solar energy.  After the estimate is complete, the company sends home owners a personalized note complete with the satellite images and thank you for signing up with company

These are just a few unique ways solar companies are working to better market their products.
