How do snow storms start?

When a mass of very cold air leaves the Earth’s polar regions and hits a mass of warm air, it makes the warm air rise quickly and the cold air drop right underneath the warm air. This process creates a giant mass of clouds, which, if the temperature of the air between the ground and the bottom of the cloudmass is below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, will start a snow storm.
