How do sequoias not die of old age?

One sequoia, the Grizzly Giant in Yosemite National Park’s Mariposa Grove, is estimated to be 2,700 years old. The Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park has five of the ten largest sequoias in the world, including General Sherman estimated at 2.7 million pounds. While sequoias do live much longer than most other organisms, it is a natural length of time for their species. Each species of living things has a unique life span, just as dogs and cats have shorter lives than humans, and Galapagos tortoises live longer than humans. As long as their habitat can support them, giant sequoias can live for literally thousands of years.
