How do seismologists measure the intensity of the earth quakes?

    seismographs measure the earth’s movement on a graph. if an earthquake occurs the spindle marks how intense the movement was from the quake. this allows the seismologists to assign the specific quake a magnitude as to how damaging or intense it was.
