Most salt water in ocean or sea water comes from natural processes, such as: the breaking up of cooled igneous rocks, the wearing down of mountains, rain, mineral washings from fresh water that flows into the sea, rocks and sediments beneath the sea floor, materials from the atmosphere, and materials from the Earth’s crust that escapes through volcanic vents.
