Studies show that sea otters store carbon by consuming sea urchins. Sea urchins consume kelp in rocky reef areas. If the otters are present to remove sea urchins, allowing kelp to flourish, then this frees up approximately 10,000,000,000 kilograms of carbon…that’s more than the $700 on the European carbon-trading market.
