How do savanna grassland differ from the high velds

The high velds of South Africa are high, cool areas often 5,000 ft. or so above sea level. The highveld is the general area of inland veld in South Africa, and it consists of flat or gently underrating terrain, including grasslands.  The savanna, on the other hand, is a grassland ecosystem that features small trees creating an open canopy allowing sufficient sunlight.
