How do recycling factories try and reduce their pollution?

Recycling trucks do not idle at the curb as long as garbage trucks, and thereby reduce the pollution associated with waste removal.  Aside from that, recycling facilities exist as an effort against pollution.  While it’s true that the process by which we recycle uses energy, it uses significantly less energy than the overall processes that go into producing and distributing the original products, and manages to conserve some of the original energy by turning the original product into something new without having to start from scratch.  Furthermore, the very act of recycling sees results in the reduction of 10 different air pollutants and 8 different water pollutants.
