How do PV solar panels turn sunlight into energy?

    Photovoltaic panels are made of silicon.  When silicon is exposed to the light photons, the photons are absorbed, and an electric charge is created.  When the photons hit and are absorbed, they knock an electron out of its old position outside the atom into the electrical flow.  If you would like to go into more details about PV cells, look at the physics section in the link below.
