How do polarized glasses work?

The polarized filter on glasses are made from a chemical film. The molecules of this film naturally align in parallel relation to one another. When this film is applied uniformly to a lens, it forms a microscopic filter which absorbs any light matching its alignment, allowing light that does not match its orientation to pass through.
