How do plants turn sunlight into energy?

    Plants convert sunlight into usable energy through a process called photosynthesis. This is a very complicated process that involves the plant needing to be sufficiently watered, green, and in direct sunlight. As the energy from the photons (light energy) strikes the chlorophyll-filled leaves it begins a chemical reaction between the chlorophyll, carbon dioxide, and water resulting in oxygen. Oxygen is not used by plants and is therefore released into the air which gives rise to another chemical, adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is then converted into glucose which is an energy provider for the cells of the plant, and just like that the vegetation has energy to grow.

    One word: photosynthesis.

    What you must realize is that sunlight is energy, more specifically electromagnetic radiation.

    What plants do is basically convert energy to something they can use. When sunlight strikes chlorophyll, for each photon that is absorbed, one electron is lost to the electron transport chain ,reducing NADP to NADPH (energy storage molecule). This also creates a proton gradient, which will allow for the synthesis of ATP.The chlorophyll molecule gets back its electron via photolysis by breaking water into oxygen (released as waste), hydrogen (makes NADPH from NADP) and electrons (the rest go to a cycle called carbon fixation which uses carbon dioxide to make carbohydrates).
