It isn’t pretty. People staying alive on bread and water alone aren’t getting the vitamins and proteins they need, just the carbohydrates from the bread. The first thing you’ll lack is vitamin C. Without vitamin C, people get scurvy, which attacks the collagen in your body that holds everything together. You basically fall apart from there. Then you lack vitamins A, B, and D, which are also essential to your body (without vitamin A, you’ll go blind and your corneas will fall out). To say that people stay alive on bread and water alone is about it. They’re starving and dying of malnutrition, so they’re lucky (or extremely unlucky) to stay alive up to 6 months.
