To make up for the low amount of nutrients found in bamboo, the giant panda will eat up to 84 pounds of it a day. In captivity, the adult diet is supplimented with other vegetables like yams and carrots, as well as nutrient-rich biscuits. Panda milk is high in protein and low in lactose, which is just what a baby panda needs to grow. When they are about five months old, baby pandas will start eating bamboo and is completely weaned by 8-9 months.
