How do panda bears get so big eating a plant with so few nutrients?

First of all, giant pandas eat a LOT of bamboo each day to make up for the plant’s lack of nutritional value. They consume 20-30 pounds of the stuff each day. It has also adapted to a more sedentary lifestyle to conserve energy. It has less social interaction and avoids sloping ground which would make it burn more calories. It’s metabolic rate is also significantly slower, allowing it to use less energy at rest.
