How do oysters reproduce?

Oysters are often hermaphroditic, meaning they will produce eggs for part of their lives and sperm the other part of their lives.  Oysters will excrete the eggs and sperm together during high tide.  Millions of eggs and sperm are set out into the world in hopes of fertilization.  The link below is an interesting video showing how it all works.

It depends on the species of oyster. The european oyster and olympia oyster are hermaphrodites that can reproduce asexually. The american bluepoint oyster has separate sexes. Check out the link for more information.
