How do our cells obtain energy?

Cells maintain and proliferate by receiving a constant supply of energy produced from chemical bond energy (measured in kilocalories – indicates the chemical strength between two atoms) in food molecules. Sugars are considered vital fuel molecules, glucose being the dominant source of energy production in animal cells. Fatty acids (major energy resource for metabolism) and proteins (major macromolecular parts of cells) may also be used as energy sources upon enzymatic pathway processing
