Plants have many ways of dispersing their seeds to distant places, such as cities far away. Some seeds have barbs or other hooks that attach to animals (such as humans) who then transport the seeds to other places. Other plants encase their seeds in fruits that animals eat, which also takes advantage of the animal’s mobility. Other seeds simply blow through the air, allowing the species to travel in short increments and hence creep into cities from outlying wilderness areas.
In many cities however, trees and other plants are not accidental. A number of cities include green spaces and plants in their plans and trees are planted on sidewalks and in parks. Usually when there are plants in a city it was a conscious decision.
