How do mountains form?

Mountain formation relies on plate tectonics. This is the science of the movement of the various plates the compose the Earth’s crust. Mountains form when these plates converge, and one plate moves under the other. When a plate moves under another one, it pushes up the part of the plate above it and forming a mountain range.
