How do large driftwoods get to the beach?

Driftwood is wood that has been washed onto shore from waves or wind. A lot of it is directly from trees, which may have been washed into the ocean from natural causes like flooding or high winds, or may be from logging. Large parts of the tree may still remain and be washed onto the sand whole.
