How do the lakes in the sierras get stocked with trout?

Trout stocking in the Sierra Lakes is now being done by the California Dept. of Fish and Game. The program that they have implemented is supposed to supplement and maintain the existing populations of non-native trout. Trout stocking in this area is also being done to maintain an artificial fishery that is pleasing to the public. Research is currently being conducted on the inherent conflicts that the ongoing stocking of trout is causing in this designated wilderness area (Knapp, 1996).
