According to the Electronics Takeback Coalition the problem isn’t home storage of electronic waste, it is what happens after people decide to dispose of e-waste. Electronic products are not designed with recycling in mind. They do not breakdown easily or cleanly in a landfill. However, in the short-term I think you are fine putting most products aside (mine are in a cardboard box, batteries in plastic bag) and then taking them to a E-cycling center in the due time.
