Most pet food cans are either aluminum or steel. To figure out which it is, get a magnet and see if it’ll stick to the can. If it does, the can is steel. If not, it is aluminum.
What do you do then? Go to your local waste management company/utility’s website and look for the page that lists which materials they accept. You can also call them and ask. The vast majority of recycling programs accept steel and aluminum cans, so it’s generally safe to just clean your cans out and throw them in the bin.
