Recycling, of course, is one way. Paper, metal, glass, and plastics make up most health care waste, and much of it can be recycled. HIPAA, the law that requires patient confidentiality, offers an opportunity to recycle confidential papers cheaply and without risk to privacy.
In addition, some nurses have convinced medical suppliers to reduce the packaging of medical tools and consolodate tools into one package to reduce waste, and some single-use items can be reused under FDA guidelines.
