How do greenhouse gases effect our planet?

Essentially, greenhouse gases keep heat from escaping the atmosphere.  While some heat is kept intact by our ozone naturally, an overabundance of gases like carbon dioxide and methane keep too much.  That is why it’s referred to as the “greenhouse effect.”  Over time, too much heat will build up if these gases can’t escape which will lead to rising sea temperatures and melting ice caps.
