Fluorocarbons cause depletion of the ozone layer in the stratosphere. Fluorocarbons are also believed to be a cause of global warming due to infra-red bands that absorb and release spectral radiation.
Chlorofluorocarbons cause ozone layer damage, and were phased out to fluorocarbons as a result. Unfortunately, fluorocarbons are very potent greenhouse gases, so in many ways we traded one problem for another.
