How do ENSO events affect biodiversity?

El Nino-Southern Oscillation is an ongoing fluctuation in climate patterns. El Nino has it’s couterpart, La Nina which effects different weather than El Nino years. Southern Oscillation is a cycle of conditions in the southern hemisphere. In order to survive for long time periods, or even between generations, organisms must adapt to live in the environment they are presented with. In this sense ENSO patterns do encourage biodiversity because there are more types of conditions to adapt to. These climate patterns are essentially the creation of a new niche dimension, which would inherently produce more biodiversity.
