Computers definitely contribute to global warming. The amount of the impact is based on many factors but the easiest to address is phantom energy. Are you using a personal computer at home or work and do you leave it on all of the time? If so, you are responsible for adding to the effects of global warming. When you leave your computer or other electronic devices on standby you are wasting power through phantom energy loss. This unneccesary extra energy use can cost U.S. consumers more than 6 billion dollars and adds about 85 billion pounds of carbon dioxide into our atmosphere every year. The easiest solution: Turn your computer and other electronic devices off via a simple power strip, vampire protector or unplug it entirely when not in use.
