How do bird species that mate for life find their mates every year during mating season?

    In a number of species such as penguins and red-winged blackbirds, it seems as though vocal recognition plays an important role in the reunion of mates. Animals, like humans, have uniques voices that can be recognized by their mates and this is how pairs of birds are able to find one another during mating season.
