How do barnacles stick to rocks and things?

    Barnacles can attach themselves permanently to a hard substrate in two ways. Acorn barnacles (Sessilia) grow their shells directly on the substrate, whereas goose barnacles and others (Pedunculata) use a stalk to attach themselves.
