Barnacles are hermaphrodytic, an single organism which has both male and female body parts. During reproduction, an adult barnacle uncoils its tubular long penis and looks for a nearby receptive neighbor in the operculum. The sperm is then transferred, the fertilized eggs are carried in the shell of the receiver adult until they evolve into a nauplius larvae
One adult barnacle can release over 10,000 larvae.
