How do astronauts avoid crashing into space junk?

The space shuttle, and other extra-atmospheric vehicles, use a complex array of GPS and other navigational systems to avoid hitting junk already left in space. Some of these systems are provided by the ground support at mission control, while others are computer controlled from within the shuttle itself. However, this does not compeltely elminiate the danger, because while we have mapped much of the man made debris, micrometeorites and other fast moving space junk can still pose a hazard.

    I hope this helped!
