It depends on the animal. If the animal hibernates, like bears, they eat extra food to gain body fat and then put themselves in a deep sleep by slowing their heart rate for the entirety of the winter. Other animals adapt for the winter weather by growing thicker coats of fur, and sometimes grow it in a white color to camouflage with the snow. Other animals change their environment by migration, too.
I think its so cool how dogs get extra fur during the winter it sucks though how they have to shed it all over your house before summer.
