The algae batteries work using a specific type of algae called Cladophora. this type of algae is known to produce toxic blooms across the ocean, but the advantage is that it also produces a unique cellulose structure with a large surface area. Scientists were able to cover this surface area with a conductive polymer which set new capacity and charge-time records for cellulose based batteries. This battery would be lighter, thinner, non toxic, and cheaper to produce, making it one to keep an eye on as our green technology advances.
