There are nine different species of tuna that live in oceans all over the world. All kinds are edible, although some varieties of tuna are endangered (Bluefin tuna, for example) and should not be eaten for fear of extinction. There are also high levels of mercury in some kinds of tuna, which is a serious health concern especially for children and pregnant or nursing women. Bluefin is the most popular type of tuna used sushi and it is considered a delicacy, but as mentioned above, it is on the verge of extinction.
