The pesticide DDT was one of the reasons why the Bald Eagle was put on the endangered species list. DDT caused the Bald Eagle to lay eggs that had thinner shells making it less likely that the baby eagles would survive until they hatched. Poisons such as mercury, lead, toxic waste and other pesticides also caused death in the Bald Eagle population.
DDT caused the devastation of many essential creatures in the eco-system, which is it was banned in North America in 1972.
Bald Eagles are now thriving in North America again due to the ban of DDT and also the protection of the eagle from hunting.
