    The problem Germany faces can be traced back to the government’s encouragement for citizens to install solar panels and sell their power back to the grid at a premium. Too many citizens jumped on the chance, and the energy harnessed now threatens to cause surges and blackouts. As New Scientist explains it, Germany’s problem “highlight(s) the perils of moving to renewables without adequate preparation.”
