The fuel cell extracts energy from chemicals within an animal, creating a self-contained device. It converts blood sugar and oxygen into energy and powers the cell. A dialysis bag surrounds the cell to enable absorption, and the energy leaves the cell by way of a platinum wire.  The rat that was tested showed no negative effects during the 11 day trial. Research teams are hoping this invention will expand life in medical implants.
