Located in the desert of southern California and northern Mexico, the Salton Sea is part of the Colorado River delta. Despite its name, it’s actually considered a lake, not a sea.  It is California’s largest lake, with a surface of 381 square miles. The maximum depth of the Salton Sea is approximately 51 feet, and the average depth is 31 feet.
