How deep do buffalo plow to get their food?

Buffalo (or bison) will plow through the snow with their large heads in order to find food. They will push the snow aside to get down to the grass beneath. As long as they can get enough nutrients from the grass beneath the snow, and as long as they don’t expend too much energy doing it, bison will continue to plough through snow up to 4 or 5 feet deep in order to get food.
