Costa Rica has put a lot of effort into reforestation and preservation. It used to be one of the most deforested countries in the world, but since the 1950s it has effectively implemented forest protection policies and management. Costa Rica promotes reforestation through subsidized loans and tax credits to landowners. They also have a policy where fossil fuels are taxed for environmental services. There are also great efforts to protect biodiversity, which in turn protects the general well-being of the land and forests.
