How come saline sinus rinses do not sting or irritate your nose when regular water would?

Well too much salt in the water can sting, but in general, it has to do with PH. the PH of water is different from the PH of your body, so it causes a stinging sensation when in contact with sensitive areas. A saline solution is more PH balanced, thus it is easier on the body.
